Clinical conversation recording

Most people assume bone health is a concern for later in life — something to think about at 60 or beyond. In this conversation, Dr. Simon of SimonMed pushes back on that assumption directly: bone mass loss typically begins in your 30s and 40s, and the rate varies significantly by individual — accelerated by factors like diabetes, hormonal changes, and other underlying conditions.

For women, the menopausal transition brings a further acceleration in bone loss on top of that baseline.

The conversation connects the dots between weakening bone and real-world consequences: weaker bone means a higher likelihood of fracture, and as people age, reduced muscle power (driven by age-related loss of fast-twitch muscle fibers) makes it harder to physically catch yourself during a fall — compounding the risk rather than existing independently of it.

What you'll learn

Topics covered include when bone loss actually begins, why individual risk factors like diabetes and menopause accelerate that timeline, and how declining muscle strength and balance compound fracture risk as we age.
