This is Session 1 of a four-part series — Spine and Musculoskeletal Actionable Resources and Tools (SMART) for TEAM — presented by the National Spine Health Foundation and sponsored by Medimaps and Radius Health.

The session opens with a CMS TEAM program overview from Dr. Bruggeman (orthopedic spine surgeon, Texas Spine Care Center; Chair, AAOS Advocacy Council), before turning to osteoporosis screening and optimization as what panelists describe as a key missing ingredient for TEAM success.

Dr. Christian Péan closes the session with real-world insights on pre-operative bone health optimization and fracture considerations. A recurring theme across the panel discussion: reimbursement incentives alone may not be enough to drive bone-health screening forward.

As one panelist put it, addressing barriers to increased bone-health screening is as much about awareness — of tools like Trabecular Bone Score — as it is about incentive design.
