Providing the full bone health picture

TBS Osteo is a state-of-the-art software powered by TBS iNsight, AI-ready technology, to evaluate bone microarchitecture in patients during a standard lumbar spine DXA scan.

Adding TBS to your clinical practice will allow you to identify up to 30% more patients at risk of fracture1, support you in the treatment decision-making and monitoring to prevent future fractures and improve overall bone health.

Since 2022 TBS Osteo benefits from 4 dedicated CPT® codes enabling its reimbursement in the USA2.

Assessing bone microarchitecture to prevent fractures

While the measurement of Bone Mineral Density (BMD) is a key factor in assessing fracture risk, it can only give information related to bone density and cannot identify all patients who are at high risk of bone fracture3.

Bone microarchitecture is a determinant aspect of bone strength and is needed to provide a complete diagnosis. This is where TBS Osteo becomes instrumental by computing a patient’s Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) which is a measure of bone texture highly correlated with bone microarchitecture.

TBS is a BMD-FRAX® independent parameter for fracture risk prediction and prevention. This means that two patients can have the same BMD but different TBS, leading to varying fracture risks. For example, one patient might have a moderate fracture risk due to a higher TBS, while another with a lower TBS could have a significant fracture risk, even though their BMD values are identical.

The clinical relevance of TBS extends to secondary osteoporosis, having an important role in the assessment and management of patients with conditions that affect bone health.

TBS Osteo benefits

Clinical

  • Identify more patients at risk of fracture by combining TBS with BMD and/or FRAX®.
  • Fine-tune therapy decisions and monitor changes in primary and secondary osteoporosis.
  • Improve patient management.

Operational

  • Seamlessly integrated into daily clinical workflow.
  • Zero additional scan time and no additional radiation for both patient and technician.
  • Automated and easy-to-interpret report with editable conclusions option.

FINANCIAL

  • Increase the value of your existing DXA practice with more patient referrals and returning patients.
  • Retrospective analysis can identify patients at risk and trigger earlier follow-up scans.
  • Reimbursement available in the USA

TBS is widely recognized and established

TBS Osteo is commercially present in more than 60 countries. Over 3 million TBS procedures per year are performed globally. Moreover, there is a substantial body of research supporting TBS, with over 1,200 scientific publications underscoring its clinical utility in enhancing fracture risk assessment. TBS is also recommended in over 30 national and international guidelines for assessing bone health and fracture risk.

The 2023 ESCEO-IOF expert working group recommends the use of TBS
