Practical guide to trabecular bone score in clinical routine, statements & workflow-example from the 2023 ESCEO & IOF expert working group publication

The ESCEO-IOF Expert Working Group (under auspices of WHO Collaborating Centre for Epidemiology of Musculoskeletal Health and Aging) has recently published an article in Osteoporosis International. This article recommends the use of Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) in clinical practice for the management of primary and secondary osteoporosis.

It states that TBS is also useful for guiding clinical decisions on osteoporosis treatment initiation and to monitor the effect of treatment alongside bone mineral density (BMD) and clinical risk factors within clinical context. The article states that TBS enhances fracture risk assessment and treatment decision-making and should be used alongside FRAX and/or bone mineral density (BMD).
